NASA Swamp Works Lab
Friday, November 20, 2015

The Granular Mechanics & Regolith Operations (GMRO) laboratory operates at the NASA, Kennedy Space Center, Swamp Works. Sandsational had an incredible opportunity to make a sand sculpture for them using their Lunar Simulant. How cool is that! This is the material they use in the lab that simulates the material on the moon.

Growing up in Satellite Beach, Florida as a ‘Space Center Kid’ Jill was especially excited to have a chance to give back to the folks at NASA.

We were lucky enough to get meet the team and see some of their projects.  When coming up with a design for the sculpture it was difficult to choose from all of these projects for a theme. We decided to focus on robotics and the making of tiles out of the material for possible buildings on the lunar surface.

When talking to the men and women of NASA you can feel the excitement and passion they have for what they do there. They are the new pioneers.

A big 'thank you" to Mike Brown for taking the photos of us.
