The Tottori Sand Museum, Japan 砂の美術館
Tuesday, April 22, 2014

In 2012 the City of Tottori built the world’s only Sand Museum. They spent over $7 million dollars on a state-of-the art building to feature sand sculpture. Last year they had over 500,000 people visit the Sand Museum!  Sandsational is truly honored to be a part of this wonderful museum.

This year’s theme was “Around the World in Sand – Russia”.  As always, it was a joy to work with our colleagues under the direction of Katsuhiko Chaen.

We were asked to sculpt a bust of Tolstoy with a scene from “War and Peace” and also to make a sand sculpture of “Napoleon’s Retreat from Moscow”.

We wish the Tottori Sand Museum the best for 2014 as they continue to bring the art of sand sculpture to the people of Japan.
